JaPassa web is the full app in your browser: open japassa.com on your computer, sign in with your phone number and the SMS code, and you can chat, call and send files using the big screen. On iPhone, there is no App Store app; you open japassa.com in Safari and add it to your Home Screen, which turns it into an app with notifications and calls.

Below are both setups step by step, plus the settings that make JaPassa feel like a real desktop app and the iPhone details people often miss.

JaPassa web on your computer: sign in at japassa.com

  1. Open japassa.com in Chrome or Edge on Windows, macOS or Linux.
  2. Enter your phone number and the 6-digit code you receive by SMS.
  3. If you turned on the Account PIN, type it too. (If you have not, read why you should.)

The computer signs in on its own: it does not need your phone to stay on or connected, unlike some apps that only mirror the phone. Your account will then appear in Settings → Security → Sessions and devices on your other devices, where you can end the session any time.

What the desktop layout gives you

  • A list of chats on one side and the open conversation on the other, with Search or start a new chat at the top.
  • Drag files onto a chat to send them (“Drop here to send”).
  • A resizable chat list: drag to resize, double-click to reset.
  • Shortcuts to Status, Channels and your profile and settings from the side navigation.

Install JaPassa desktop as an app

You can keep using the browser tab, but installing is better: JaPassa opens in its own window like a desktop app, starts faster and shows notifications.

  1. In Chrome or Edge, look for the install option in the address bar or in the browser menu, or use Install JaPassa when JaPassa offers it.
  2. Confirm with Install.
  3. Open JaPassa from your Start menu, Dock or desktop shortcut from now on.

Turn on desktop notifications

Go to Settings → Notifications and tap Turn on, then allow notifications when the browser asks. If they are blocked, click the icon to the left of the address (japassa.com) → Notifications → Allow, and reload. In the installed window, use the ⋮ menu at the top right → App info → Notifications → Allow. Also check that your operating system allows notifications from the browser and that Focus or Do not disturb is off. The Check notifications button sends a test so you can confirm.

Microphone and camera for calls

The first time you call, allow the microphone and camera. If you refused, click the padlock next to the address and allow “Microphone” and “Camera” for japassa.com, then call again.

Bring your chat history to the computer

For privacy, JaPassa stores messages on your devices rather than keeping them on its servers. A newly signed-in computer therefore starts without your old history. To copy it from your phone:

  1. On the computer, open Settings → Backup and choose Receive (“Receive chats from another device”). A QR code appears; keep the page open.
  2. On your phone, open Settings → Backup → Send and point the camera at the QR code.
  3. Wait until the transfer finishes. The code works once, for 10 minutes.

You can also restore an encrypted backup file with its password. Full details in how to back up and restore your JaPassa chats.

JaPassa on iPhone: add it from Safari

JaPassa is not in the App Store. On iPhone it runs as a web app installed to the Home Screen, which is how it gets an icon, notifications and calls.

  1. Open japassa.com in Safari.
  2. Tap ⋯ next to the address, then Share. On older iOS versions, tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Keep Open as Web App on (if you see that option) and tap Add.
  5. Open JaPassa from the new Home Screen icon and sign in with your number and SMS code.

On iPhone, notifications and calls only work when JaPassa is installed this way. Always open it from the Home Screen icon, not from a Safari tab. More background in how to add a web app to your iPhone Home Screen.

Turn on notifications on iPhone

  1. Inside JaPassa (opened from the icon), go to Settings → Notifications and tap Turn on, then allow.
  2. If nothing arrives, open iPhone Settings → Notifications → JaPassa and enable Allow Notifications.
  3. Check whether a Focus, such as Do Not Disturb, is on.

Keep the web app up to date

To check for a new version, open Settings → Updates, which shows the installed version. When a new version is ready, an Update now notice appears in the chat list. Updating does not delete chats, encryption keys or settings, on the computer or on iPhone.

Using a shared or work computer safely

Logging out of JaPassa keeps your chats and keys on that device so you can sign back in later. That is convenient on your own laptop, but not on a shared one. On a computer other people use:

  • Use Remove this account from the device instead of a simple log out. It deletes this account’s chats, photos and files from that computer (they are not kept on the server, so make sure you have them on your phone).
  • If you forgot, end that session from your phone in Settings → Security → Sessions and devices.
  • Consider turning on Locked chats for sensitive conversations.

Two numbers, two accounts

On both computer and iPhone you can add a second account and switch between them from the side menu (Switch account) or, on a computer, from your profile menu. Two accounts are free on the same device; JaPassa Plus allows more. See two JaPassa accounts on one phone.

Quick summary

  • Computer: open japassa.com in Chrome or Edge, sign in with your number, install it as an app, turn on notifications, and bring your history with Settings → Backup → Receive.
  • iPhone: Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen, keep Open as Web App on, always open from the icon, then turn on notifications.
  • On shared computers, remove the account from the device when you leave.

On Android, the easiest option is the Google Play app. Everywhere else, open JaPassa in your browser.
